It's Maintenance Monday again, and this week we want to talk about maintenance that you might have to do by yourself. No one wants to change a tire, but at some point almost every driver will have to. Here’s how to get your vehicle rolling again in ten easy steps. 1. Pull over. Get to a flat, safe spot and set your parking brake. 2. Turn on your hazard lights. This lets other drivers know to give you a wide berth. 3. Get the jack, lug wrench and spare tire out. 4. Loosen the lug nuts. Just a little. Otherwise, they won’t loosen when the tire is elevated. 5. Lift the vehicle using the jack. The tire should be about six inches off the ground. 6. Remove the lug nuts and pull the tire off the vehicle. 7. Place the spare on. Line the lug nut posts with the holes in the spare, and push onto the wheel base until it won’t go anymore. 8. Put on the lug nuts. Don’t tighten too much; just enough to keep the tire on the vehicle. 9. Lower the vehicle back to the ground by unwinding the jack. 10. Tighten the lug nuts. But not in order. Start with one, and then tighten the opposite nut.
